Abstract:
Despite allegations that the Indian government is being pressured into signing the NPT by the U.S., it has officially stated that it will not sign the NPT because of its "discriminatory" character. India has also said it will not attend the proposed five-nation conference on nuclear nonproliferation in South Asia. Although some of the Indian press believed that Indian Foreign Secretary J.N. Dixit might have hinted to US leaders that India would sign the NPT, India's Minister of State for External Affairs Eduardo Faleiro stated that this was not the case. ..... Related article: After returning from his U.S. visit, Dixit stated that India would not yield to US pressure to sign the NPT.
