Abstract:
Belarusian customs officials at the Kozlovichi checkpoint on the Belarusian-Polish border detained five trucks en route from Germany and Italy to Belarus and Russia. The trucks had varying cargo loads, including construction materials, food additives and paint products, however, all of these loads emitted radiation higher than the acceptable norm -- ranging from 0.11 microsievert/hr to 0.31 microsievert/hr. Another vehicle was detained at the Mokrany checkpoint on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. This truck was en route from Italy to Russia with a consignment of household chemicals and paint products. The cargo emitted radiation at a level greater than the acceptable norm by 0.47 microsievert/hr. (The acceptable level for cargo crossing the border is 0.2 microsievert/hr.) {Entered 09/23/08 AL}
